On this new album 'Gelosia !' (Jealousy !), countertenor Philippe Jaroussky is accompanied by his ensemble Artaserse. This album takes its dramatic name from two solo cantatas recorded here in a world premiere. Programmed alongside cantatas by Vivaldi, Haendel and Alessandro Scarlatti, they are the work of the Neapolitan Nicola Porpora and the Venetian Baldassare Galuppi. Although composed 35 years apart, the two cantatas set the same text, “La Gelosia,” a work by the prolific Pietro Metastasio.
