The dramatic force fully carries this lyric tragedy by Tommaso Traetta! Ifigenia in Tauride plunges us into the heart of the tragic fate of the Atrides: Orestes is consumed by the murder of his mother, while Iphigenia is forever marked by her failed sacrifice, orchestrated by her own father. These are two tormented, deeply lonely souls who recognize each other in a moving emotion. Traetta's music, at the crossroads of Neapolitan bel canto and Gluckist drama, perfectly embraces this tragic tension. His vocal virtuosity is never gratuitous: it serves a powerful expressiveness, where every vocalise, every musical line conveys raw and sincere emotion. Christophe Rousset conducts the musicians of Les Talens Lyriques and the brilliant soloist cast, in which Rocío Pérez portrays a moving Iphigenia, in this masterpiece by Traetta, recorded here for the first time.
