Here are Monteverdi's Vespers like you've never heard them before! "I see these Vespers as a great incantatory ritual that unites the sacred with the pagan, the intimate with the collective. I felt this powerful sensation many times in my childhood, in the heart of an abbey: the intense and warm light of a summer day's end, coming from the west and reflecting into the choir," says Simon-Pierre Bestion. The founder of La Tempête made very personal choices for this recording, particularly regarding the composition of the orchestra, which he enriched with instruments from different cultures, such as the serpent or the chitarrone. He added "false bourdon," simple and improvised songs from the popular tradition. The colors of the voices in these Vespers are also very unique. Bestion follows in the lineage of oral polyphonies, as they still exist in Corsica, Sardinia, or Georgia.
