An abandoned cathedral. An atrocious murder. A powerful supernatural entity haunting the catacombs. All of this culminates in downtown Los Angeles. What will happen and who will survive to tell the tale? This is the scenario of Cathedral, the thrilling new album and terrifying graphic novel by director and musician John Carpenter, inspired by a dream he had in 2024. Cathedral has all the drama, dark atmosphere, and breakneck pace of a classic heavy metal album. Specifically designed as the soundtrack to the graphic novel, each track corresponds to a specific section of the book. The included liner notes in the album packaging provide insights for each track, creating a fully interactive experience. Paired with the graphic novel, this is the closest thing to a new John Carpenter film in years. The music of Cathedral retains all the unsettling atmosphere and sinister tension of the iconic soundtracks Carpenter composed for his films Halloween, The Fog, and Assault on Precinct 13, but this is a much more intense work, driven by riffs. Carpenter firmly believes that music plays a crucial role in what truly makes something frightening. Like all of Carpenter's musical ventures for over a decade, the album is released by Sacred Bones. Cathedral awaits you. Dive back into the world of John Carpenter.
