“POP SONGS” showcases the incredible artistry of cellist Jan Vogler with the BBC Philharmonic & Omer Meier Wellber. In this program spanning nearly 500 years, Jan Vogler has recorded the most beautiful and popular vocal pieces by Monteverdi, Vivaldi, Bizet, Mozart, as well as those by the Beatles, Gary Moore, and Michael Jackson. For this special project, he teams up with the BBC Philharmonic and conductor Omer Meier Wellber. The pieces have been specially arranged for cello and orchestra and bring them back to life in unprecedented splendor. The BBC Philharmonic beautifully showcases Jan Vogler, while Omer Meier Wellber plays the accordion in a sublime version of Monteverdi’s “Pur ti miro.” Vogler has chosen the most delightful pieces from operas such as Dido and Aeneas, Carmen, and The Magic Flute. He also does not hesitate to revisit favorite 20th-century pieces such as “Summertime” from Porgy and Bess, “It was a very good year” by Frank Sinatra, and “Billie Jean” by Michael Jackson.
