"Playing a single note of music beautifully is enough. If you can achieve that, there is nothing more to add. This is the mystery of music" (Arvo Pärt). The best representative of European minimalism, the Estonian Arvo Pärt has written extensively for voices and for the Church. However, it is his instrumental music, of diaphanous beauty, that has made him known in the West. This album Tabula Rasa features exceptional versions of Pärt's greatest "hits": Fratres and the famous Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten (used by Carax in his film Les Amants du Pont Neuf). The exceptional quality of this record also comes from the caliber of the artists featured in its lineup. In Fratres, the brilliant violinist Gidon Kremer, a great advocate of contemporary Eastern music, is beautifully complemented by the surprising Keith Jarrett.
