Few composers are more closely associated with Deutsche Grammophon than J. S. Bach. Here is a limited edition 50-CD set featuring the composer’s greatest recordings from the Deutsche Grammophon and Archiv labels, bringing together in a single box the leading artists and essential masterpieces. The emphasis is on the superlative, so included here are the Brandenburg Concertos by Abbado, the Cantatas by Quasthoff, The Well-Tempered Clavier by Pollini, the English Suites by Pogorelich, as well as period-instrument performances by Gardiner (St. John Passion, Christmas Oratorio), McCreesh (St. John Passion) and Pinnock (Harpsichord Concertos, Goldberg Variations). The albums, presented in sleeves with original artwork, are arranged by BWV (Bach Works Catalogue), which places the cantatas and major choral works first, followed by the keyboard works (organ (by Walcha, K. Richter and Preston), harpsichord (by Pinnock), piano (by Argerich, Pires)) and chamber music, then the orchestral works (concertos) and finally the supreme masterpieces that are The Musical Offering (Goebel) and The Art of Fugue (Aimard).
