Daft Punk Vinyl: The 6 Records Every Collector Should Own

Daft Punk vinyl guide: the 6 records worth owning, from Homework to Random Access Memories, with verified labels, Billboard peaks, RIAA certs and pressing tips.
Reading time: 13'

On January 20, 1997, two young Parisians released Homework through Virgin and the Glasgow label Soma Quality Recordings, and French house suddenly had a global voice. Twenty-four years later, on February 22, 2021, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo called it quits with a short film titled Epilogue. What they left behind is a catalog that record collectors still chase hard. This guide covers the six Daft Punk vinyl records worth owning, with verified years and labels, how each one did in the US, and what to check before you buy. For the full discography and every edition we track, head to our Daft Punk artist page.

Quick answer
  • Start with Discovery (2001) or Random Access Memories (2013): the hits record and the Grammy-winning studio record.
  • Random Access Memories is Daft Punk's only No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 and is certified 2x Platinum by the RIAA.
  • Daft Punk made four studio albums; this list adds the live album Alive 2007 and their TRON: Legacy film score.
  • Original pressings and reissues look alike: check the catalog number and the dead wax (the run-out groove) against Discogs before paying collector money.

Every record below was checked for exact title, original release year and label, and we added the US chart and certification data from Billboard and the RIAA. Daft Punk treated their albums as objects, from the artwork to the sequencing, and most of them were cut as double LPs, which gives the grooves room to breathe. If you want to see where these records sit in a bigger collection, our 30 essential vinyl records by genre and our starter list of the best albums to own on vinyl are good next reads.

Homework (1997): where it all starts

Year
1997
Label
Virgin / Soma Quality Recordings
Format
2LP
RIAA
Gold (2001)

Daft Punk Homework album cover (1997)Homework is the debut, released January 20, 1997 on Virgin, with Soma in the credits. The Scottish label had put out the duo's first singles, The New Wave in 1994 and Da Funk in 1995. The US release followed on March 25, 1997. The album carries Da Funk, Around the World and Rollin' & Scratchin': filtered, looped, robotic house that still sounds like a DJ set more than a record. On a double LP the kick drums and bass lines have space, and the album plays like one long, continuous night.

US story: Homework only reached No. 150 on the Billboard 200, yet the RIAA certified it Gold on July 11, 2001. What to look for: the original 1997 double LP carries catalog number V 2821 on Virgin and Soma. Later reissues are everywhere and cost less, so if a seller prices a copy like an OG pressing, ask for photos of the labels and the run-out groove. Our used vinyl buying guide walks you through every check before you buy.

Discovery (2001): the pop peak

Year
2001
Label
Virgin Records
Format
2LP
RIAA
Gold (2010)

Daft Punk Discovery album cover (2001)Released March 12, 2001 on Virgin, Discovery is the record that took Daft Punk into mainstream pop culture. One More Time, Aerodynamic, Digital Love and Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger all come from it, wrapped in glossy, nostalgic disco-house. The whole album also became the soundtrack to Interstella 5555, an animated film made with Japanese artist Leiji Matsumoto that premiered at Cannes in 2003. On vinyl, the layered arrangements and the vocoder vocals sound warm and full.

US story: the album peaked at No. 23 on the Billboard 200 and went Gold with the RIAA on October 11, 2010. If you only buy one Daft Punk record, this is the safe bet. Collector tip: the Interstella 5555 edition, a limited 2LP released December 13, 2024 for the film's 20th anniversary, replicates the 2002 Japanese vinyl edition, with artwork tied to Matsumoto's film, a sticker sheet and a Daft Club membership card. It is a reissue, not an original, so price it accordingly. For any copy, inspect the sleeve corners and the vinyl surface under a light before you pay.

Human After All (2005): the hard left turn

Year
2005
Label
Virgin Records
Format
2LP
US peak
No. 98

Daft Punk Human After All album cover (2005)The third studio album, Human After All, came out March 14, 2005 on Virgin. It is harder, more repetitive and more rock than anything before it, and it drew mixed reviews at the time before fans came around to it. Robot Rock and Technologic hammer away with near-industrial synth riffs. It is the most stripped-down record in the catalog, and that bluntness works well on a turntable, where the distorted textures hit with real weight.

This is the pick for listeners who already know the hits and want the duo's rougher side. The original 2005 pressing is a 2LP on Virgin, and reissues have followed since. Compare the edition, check the sleeve condition and grab the Human After All: Remixes 2LP if you like where the album goes next: that remix set came out on vinyl for the first time on November 28, 2025.

Alive 2007 (2007): the pyramid show on record

Year
2007
Label
Virgin / Daft Life
Format
2LP (2014)
Grammy
Best Electronic/Dance Album

Daft Punk Alive 2007 album coverRecorded at the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy on June 14, 2007, Alive 2007 captures the pyramid tour that changed what an electronic live show could look and sound like. The duo tears its songs apart and rebuilds them as one continuous mix, and the Around the World / Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger mash-up is the moment most fans remember. At the 2009 Grammys the album won Best Electronic/Dance Album, and the live Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger won Best Dance Recording.

Vinyl note: the album first came out on CD in November 2007, and the official double LP only arrived in December 2014, alongside a limited box set. So a "2007 vinyl" listing deserves a close look. Play it front to back like the set it was. It is the natural companion to the studio albums, and complete copies with both discs and a clean gatefold are the ones to buy.

TRON: Legacy (2010): synths meet the orchestra

Year
2010
Label
Walt Disney Records
Format
2LP
RIAA
Platinum (2023)

Daft Punk TRON: Legacy soundtrack cover (2010)Released December 3, 2010 on Walt Disney Records, the TRON: Legacy soundtrack was Daft Punk's first film score. They paired their synths with an 85-piece orchestra recorded at AIR Lyndhurst in London, with Joseph Trapanese arranging and orchestrating. The result is dark and cinematic, and Derezzed is the track everyone knows. The low end and the orchestral swells make a strong case for hearing it on vinyl.

US story: the soundtrack climbed to No. 4 on the Billboard 200, their first top 10 album in the US, and the RIAA certified it Platinum on January 10, 2023. The first vinyl edition was a limited, numbered 2LP in Europe in 2011, and a US 2LP followed in 2015. Several editions exist since, so check which tracks and which sleeve you are getting before you order.

Random Access Memories (2013): the big finish

Year
2013
Label
Columbia Records
Format
2LP, 180g
RIAA
2x Platinum (2023)

Daft Punk Random Access Memories album cover (2013)The last studio album, Random Access Memories, came out May 17, 2013 on Columbia and changed the game for the duo. They traded part of the machines for session musicians and guests: Nile Rodgers, Pharrell Williams, Giorgio Moroder, Julian Casablancas and Paul Williams among them. The sessions were captured on analog tape and in Pro Tools at the same time, so the team could compare both versions of each recording and keep the one they preferred. Get Lucky hit No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and is now certified 8x Platinum.

US story: the album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 339,000 copies sold in its first week, their only chart-topping album in the US, and it is certified 2x Platinum. At the 2014 Grammys it won Album of the Year, Best Dance/Electronica Album and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical, while Get Lucky took Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

For vinyl, the standard 2LP on 180-gram vinyl is the everyday choice, and the 10th Anniversary Edition from May 12, 2023 adds a third LP with about 35 minutes of demos and outtakes.
