After two studio albums whose success was confirmed by a live album, and remixes for the biggest names of the moment (from The Streets to Coldplay), the Bergen duo deliberately put things on hold while waiting for inspiration to return and push them to record this Junior, which goes in every direction of electro pop, as if to make people forget the crisis. Good news: Torbjørn Brundtland and Svein Berge felt like exploring further in tracks such as the very New Order Tricky Tricky or This Must Be It, performed by Karin Dreijer Andersson of The Knife, another slightly offbeat Norwegian duo. Also notable on Junior is the presence of Robyn, the rising star of Swedish pop, who recently opened for Madonna in Europe, and lights up The Girl And The Robot, which Röyksopp describes as “technopera,” as well as Anneli Drecker, another compatriot and loyal collaborator who had already sung on Sparks (taken from Melody A.M.), and toured with Brundtland and Berge. Her contribution to Vision One, a kind of digital tribute to Stevie Wonder funk, is a delight. Junior holds other surprises such as the soothing Silver Cruiser, Forever with pronounced prog rock accents, and the infectious Happy Up There, a song that came together with apparent ease, released as the first single and likely to win unanimous approval on radio and dancefloors around the world. In the end, an album that breathes optimism and shows that positive thinking has its merits.
