The eighth full-length album, Ghost Reveries, by the Swedish heavy metal band Opeth is the very embodiment of what metal should be: a work of art. The album is filled with heavy, complex guitar riffs played with precision. You cannot avoid the monstrous riffs in a song like "The Grand Conjuration." As the band’s main songwriter, Mikael Åkerfeldt succeeded in transferring his dark emotions into all these twisted solos, then surrounded by an even thicker wall of riffs. He blends pure classical harmonies with guttural growls. Opeth’s technical ability sets them apart from their followers and their peers. Ghost Reveries is therefore one of the greatest metal albums ever recorded. This album is the result of everything Opeth accomplished throughout their career. It is fully realized, incredibly beautiful, and emotionally fragmented. The successful Swedish metal band Opeth became known in the early 2000s, after releasing some of the fans’ favorite tracks. Their first world tour after the release of Blackwater Park in 2001 marked the beginning of major album sales and beautiful artistic songs.
