Melvins are a prolific rock/metal band originally formed in 1983 in Aberdeen, Washington, who relocated to San Francisco, California in 1988, and eventually settled in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles. Core members are Roger "Buzz" Osborne aka King Buzzo (guitar/vocals) and Dale Crover (drums/vocals and bass on some releases). Throughout their 30-year career, they have had a rotating cast of over 10 bass players and released over 20 studio albums. Their current bassist is Steven McDonald. They perform as "Melvins Lite" with Trevor Dunn on bass and as "Melvins 1983" with Dale on bass instead of drums, referencing the band's first incarnation around 1983 before Dale played drums. The band. The name Melvins comes from a grocery store clerk at the Thriftway in Montesano, where King Buzzo was a clerk and vandal. Melvin was the most disliked co-worker and they thought it was an utterly ridiculous name.
