LiV Warfield’s concerts are described as if you were “watching Tina Turner, Sade and James Brown at the same time.” Add Mary J. Blige, Etta James and Nina Simone, and you get close to an accurate description of the singer-songwriter and dynamic LiV Warfield. A Soul Train Music Award winner and former member of Prince’s New Power Generation, LiV Warfield showcases a wide range of musical tastes on The Edge. From the rock-tinged title track, which bears her mentor’s stamp, to the autobiographical “Bloom,” and her cover of Phil Collins’ ballad “Another Day in Paradise,” LiV inhabits a myriad of moods while expressing her inner strength and soul on her third album overall and her first for Leopard. A former high school track star at Peoria Notre Dame and the daughter of a deacon in the Pentecostal church in Peoria, Illinois, Warfield burst onto the scene in 2006 with her debut album, Embrace Me. A YouTube video of her performing the Rolling Stones’ “Gimme Shelter” with her band, The Warfield Experience, caught the attention of none other than Prince, leading him to audition and hire her. She officially joined Prince’s New Power Generation in 2010 and toured the world with The Purple One for the next five years, appearing on the studio album Welcome 2 America (recorded in 2010 and released in 2021), issued posthumously. ‘The Edge’ is her 3rd album as a leader.
