The New York duo Lipphead, formed by Tony Simon (aka Blockhead) and Eliot Lipp, returns with a third album that is decidedly fun, following their first two records released on Detroit label Young Heavy Soul. Their music moves between Blockhead’s groovy, sample-based hip-hop and Eliot Lipp’s upbeat electronic funk, offering a unique and jubilant blend. A major figure in instrumental hip-hop, Blockhead has released fifteen albums in fifteen years, including several acclaimed on Ninja Tune, and has produced notably for Aesop Rock. He continues his sonic explorations today on labels such as Future Archive Recordings and Backwoodz Studios. Eliot Lipp, a Brooklyn-based electronic musician, was spotted by Scott Herren (Prefuse 73, Warp Records) before releasing his debut album in 2004 on Eastern Developments, a label affiliated with Warp. Together, the two producers fuse their worlds into a free and playful aesthetic.
