The future of Tuareg music is being written by Imarhan. Since their beginnings in 2006 in Tamanrasset, Imarhan has renewed Tuareg music. Often compared to Tinariwen, they have nonetheless asserted their own identity, blending assouf, Tuareg poetry, funk, psychedelia, and pan-African grooves to create a modern and rooted sound. With Essam, recorded in their Aboogi Studio, the band takes a bold turn: co-produced with Maxime Kosinetz and Γmile Papandreou, the album incorporates electronic textures, modular synths, and drum machines, while highlighting local artists, including women playing the imzad and tinde. Already internationally recognized thanks to Temet and Aboogi, Imarhan is now establishing itself as a major voice in desert blues and a strong link between tradition and modernity.
