A true pioneer, Donald Byrd never stopped reinventing himself, moving from Be Bop to Jazz Funk and detouring through Soul Jazz, making this extraordinary artist one of the most modern jazz musicians. Recorded between 1969 and 1970, "Kofi" would not be released on the Blue Note label until 1995. Although unveiled very late to the general public, this album is now considered an essential part of the master's prolific discography. The virtuosity of the musicians accompanying Donald Byrd allowed the album to become a jazz essential. Alongside the label's star trumpeter are giants of the genre such as Frank Foster (saxophone), Lew Tabackin (saxophone and flute), Duke Pearson (keyboards), Bob Cranshaw (bass), Airto Moreira (drums), Mickey Roker (drums), and Ron Carter (double bass).
