Caetano Veloso (1968) is the first solo album by Caetano Veloso, a central figure of the Tropicalia movement. Released during the height of the Brazilian military dictatorship, this album marks a turning point in Brazilian popular music by merging bossa nova, psychedelic rock, samba, and avant-garde influences. Tracks like "Tropicalia" (which gave its name to the movement) and "Alegria, Alegria" become anthems of freedom and social critique, with poetic lyrics and bold arrangements. The album is now considered a classic, often cited among the best Brazilian records of all time.
