YPPAH delivers us a prodigious album between electro/rock/psyche. Having amassed a legion of loyal fans with a signature that blends electronic, psychedelic and rock influences, YPPAH returns with Tiny Pause. On this album, Joe Corrales Jr. radically changes his technique in his writing process, moving away from production software and live instruments in favor of modular synths and samplers. Inspired by 8mm images and archive films that are both “beautiful and creepy,” found on the Internet, YPPAH revisits moving landscapes, memories, the emotional warmth of his previous works, and magnifies it all, echoing Tycho, Baths and Boards of Canada. Having grown up listening to hip-hop and My Bloody Valentine, Joe has used many instruments and techniques to forge an ethereal and dynamic career. Following You Are Beautiful At All Times, They Know What Ghost Know and Eighty One, Tiny Pause reflects the recent turns in the artist’s life: he left Texas for California and began working on ambitious commercial projects (soundtrack, sound design), he got two dogs and discovered the joys of surfing. Tiny Pause presents us with an artist more fulfilled and mature in sound.
