After two EPs and a promising start to his career, Grammy Award-winning saxophonist Venna releases his debut album, Malik. Refusing to be limited to jazz alone, Malik embodies the blend of sounds that reflects Venna’s environment. Bossa Nova influences can be heard throughout the album, along with a deep love for Soul, R&B and Rap. The breadth of Venna’s talent shines through in his choice of collaborators, including singers Jorja Smith, Leon Thomas, MIKE and Smino, as well as instrumentalists such as Yussef Dayes and Marco Bernardis. It is a rare and beautiful thing when an artist sees himself as nothing more than an instrument in the service of music. And while Malik is a manifestation of his experiences, his worldview and his years of hard work, Venna wants this album to be an invitation. An invitation to let go, to be present and to let yourself be carried away by sensory experiences.
