Let’s agree on this: techno is only a spice sprinkled to taste over layered strata of intense rock and neo-psychedelia; the general public is constantly looking for new sounds supported by a familiar musical base. Thus, Pop, a true Warholian treatise on the plasticity of pop culture, masterfully combines a mix of new sonic textures with the inimitable style of one of the greatest rock bands. "Discotheque" opens the album with great power, "Staring At The Sun" is U2’s response to the opportunism of Oasis’s hit, "Wonderwall," while "If God Will Send His Angels" has the qualities of a universal anthem. Pop brilliantly symbolizes a constantly evolving U2.
