Many still remember this ephemeral project called Troc, which toured a few clubs between 1971 and 1973. In the wake of the opening created by Miles Davis’s Bitches Brew, then the beginnings of Weather Report, French musicians were in turn launching into a fusion between jazz and rock. It took the boldness and energy of Dédé Ceccarelli to bring together jazzmen with few inhibitions, ready to display their darker side in a unique fusion proposal. What a melting pot Troc was! The power of Alex Ligertwwod’s vocals is deeply rock. The charismatic singer, known as Santana’s voice, truly sets the stage alight. Jannick Top recaptures the energy of Magma’s finest hours. The keyboard work of the young Julian Oliver Mazzariello sounds typically 70s, as do the saturated tones of Amaury Filliard’s guitar. Rediscovering Troc today is an opportunity to dive once again into the incredible effervescence of those years when jazz was turning electric.
