Not at all shy about having succeeded in blending pop, hip-hop, dance and acid house in the early ’90s, Brixton’s Stereo MCs (London) are back on the attack and sound as if no time has passed: bold! We remember Connected and their famous third album, which gave these partygoers the chance to tour with Happy Mondays and U2. We also remember that, despite a few other good tracks and notable festival appearances (at Glastonbury in 2005, for example), Stereo MCs have sometimes lacked consistency. That is why this return to favor, thanks to the meeting in a Brixton pub (you couldn’t make it up) between frontman Rob Birch and Tic-Toc, a young wizard with machines, deserves to be saluted. Their partnership has given birth to this Double Bubble, which revolutionizes nothing but whose festive spirit is undeniable. Like rabbits forever wound up without needing their batteries changed, Stereo MCs have decided not to age; others should follow their example.
