"The most exciting – and best – Rough Trade signing in recent years." Even though the English are never short of superlatives, it must be said that Starcrawler is not just a flash in the pan: Ryan Adams, Sir Elton John, Dave Grohl, and Gerard Way sing their praises, describing them as a mix of the incendiary performances of the 70s and the electric genius of the Stooges. Just that! A quartet led by Arrow de Wilde, daughter of American photographer and director Autumn de Wilde and Aaron from Beachwood Sparks (drummer for Father John Misty, Tobias Jesso Jr, and Ariel Pink among others), the band formed a year ago when she met Henri Cash in high school. Shortly after, the streets of Los Angeles brought them the perfect rhythm section with Austin Smith on drums and Tim Franco on bass. With their raucous riffs and thunderous rhythms, they evoke nothing less than a blend of the Cramps, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Alice Cooper, and the New York Dolls. Recorded by Ryan Adams in his Pax-Am studio, the ten tracks of this self-titled debut album prove that Starcrawler is indeed breathing new life into Rock'n'Roll. Ready to be blown away? "Carried away by the volcanic singer Arrow de Wilde, the new destroy muse of Hedi Slimane, these young Californian musicians are dynamiting rock to carve their own path." Jalouse
