Rainbow is one of the jewels of British hard rock. Founded by Ritchie Blackmore after his departure from Deep Purple, the band would go through several lineups until 1997. The musicians changed, but the band’s guiding line and fundamentals remained thanks to the virtuoso guitarist: from great rock anthems like Long Live Rock And Roll and All Night Long to more mystical tracks like Starglazer or Man On A Silver Mountain. Moreover, the contributions of singer Ronnie James Dio and drummer Cozy Powell deeply marked the band’s history. Rising is the band’s second album; on this record Richie Blackmore lets us hear everything he was never able to do with Deep Purple, namely a harder rock that is more melodic and less raw. Ronnie James Dio’s voice also plays a major role on it.
