The Breton producer QUINQUIS returns with her second album! eor - which means “anchor” in Breton - is inspired by the time Émilie spent at sea, leaving her island to sail from Brittany to the Faroe Islands, via Ireland and the Scottish islands. More specifically, the album was inspired by the misty movements she observed offshore, resembling mermaids. Thinking of the sailors who, over the centuries, had seen what she saw, she began to imagine how these powerful mermaids might appear in contemporary life. Across eight tracks, she weaves stories of mermaids who would like to be sailors, mermaids in love with other mermaids, and mermaids cursed for wanting to love like humans, while celebrating the enchantment, power and mystery of these fantastical creatures, as well as the role they play, especially in communities with a direct connection to the sea. The album’s ideas emerged acoustically before being enriched by modular and analog electronic elements, creating an immersive and singular universe carried by Émilie’s sublime voice. The album is mainly sung in Breton, with two guests performing tracks in their respective languages, where Desire Marea sings Inkanuko in Zulu, while triple harpist and composer Cerys Hafana sings Blaz an holen in Welsh.
