Light in the Attic presents the very first vinyl reissue of “Nancy,” released in 1969. The record celebrates one of the most overlooked periods of Nancy’s career. After three years in the spotlight and at the top of the pop scene, Nancy Sinatra finds herself in a situation that is both unexpected and familiar — much like at the beginning of 1965. She once again finds herself without a producer, without new songs, and having to fight to stay on her label at the time, Reprise Records. Lee Hazlewood had been her producer, duet partner, and the writer of several of her biggest hits. After three incredible years of hits, Lee suddenly leaves the United States to settle in Sweden. She then finds in her faithful arranger Billy Strange a new producer, and discovers a promising young songwriter (and future superstar), Mac Davis, who will help redefine the sound of her music. Simply titled “Nancy,” this album holds a special place in her discography, halfway between her iconic 1960s records and her more funk-oriented explorations of the 1970s. It features country-tinged soul (God Knows I Love You, Son of a Preacher Man), timeless ballads (Memories), as well as an orchestral, bluesy, languid version of the Doors’ Light My Fire. It is a transitional album, beloved by longtime fans and ready to be rediscovered. -Vinyl version: gatefold sleeve, 12-page booklet with interview/photos/unpublished personal archives and flexi disc included -CD version: 24-page booklet with interview/photos/unpublished personal archives and 3 bonus tracks included
