Six years after the success of Ninja Tuna, Andy Carthy is back! For this new album, Friendly Bacteria, MR SCRUFF aka Andy Carthy spent a lot of time working with various artists. The first of them is Denis Jones who notably lends his soulful voice to the catchy opening track of the album, "Stereo Breath." Among the singers, we also find Vanessa Freeman who adds just the right amount of sweetness to "Come Find Me" and the unique Robert Owens on the very deep house "He Don't." On the musicians' side, MR SCRUFF's productions are accompanied by the work of Matthew Halsall, Andy Kingslow, Kaidi Tatham, Sara Dowling, Taz Modi, and bassist Phil France (Cinematic Orchestra). The results range from the splendid and jazzy "What?" to the brilliant "We Are Coming," which reinvents the meeting between the early days of techno and acid. The conclusion of the album, "Feel Free," demonstrates, with Halsall's trumpet, Dowling's cello, and France's double bass, that MR SCRUFF is now a complete artist who delights not only dancefloors.
