Thanks to these ten new irrepressible tracks, Andrew and Ben have brought a great deal to MGMT’s repertoire, definitively wiping the slate clean of any creative limits or stylistic restrictions, while continuing to choose the names of their records years before they had worked on the music (they had named their second album Congratulations even before their first, Oracular Spectacular, was released). At once minimal and maximal, this 3rd album titled MGMT is to date the band’s most accomplished, provocative, and accessible album: a dense field of forces swirling with musical energies, upending the boundaries of pop. Includes 1 download code: “L’OPTIMIZER,” an animated film on all the tracks from the album, a real bonus DVD available as a download! Produced by MGMT’s live video instrumentalist Alejandro Crawford, “The Optimizer” offers listeners of the album an audio and visual experience thanks to the video work and computer-generated imagery of Andrew Benson, Emilio Gomariz, Geoffrey Lillemon, and Chris Timms.
