An extremely in-demand pianist, MATT MITCHELL is also part of the DAVE DOUGLAS QUINTET, RUDRESH MAHANTHAPPA’s BIRD CALLS, JOHN HOLLENBECK’s large ensemble, the DARIUS JONES QUARTET, the CLAUDIA QUINTET as well as TIM BERNE’s group, SNAKEOIL, all top-tier American formations. Eight original pieces playing on composition-improvisation variations within an essentially jazz tradition, though sometimes referring to the contemporary register (MORTON FELDMAN and HARRISON BIRTWISTLE), are spread across the two discs of a highly recommendable double album.
