Darker than the two previous albums, Mezzanine definitively confirms the Bristol trio’s hegemony on the Down tempo scene. A musical depression of genius, the overall atmosphere of this opus is driven by a suffocating impression that only fades with tracks like Teardrop or Exchange. Mezzanine by Massive Attack, hailed as the group’s masterpiece, is reissued in a 3LP color edition and a 2 CD digipack edition to mark the 20th anniversary of its release. On this album, the group moves away from trip-hop toward electronica and rock. These two editions contain 8 previously unreleased remixes by Mad Professor.
