Barely two years after making his comeback with the excellent Terminé Bonsoir, Marka returns with a new album titled Voodoo Belge. Comprising 13 tracks, this album is a distillation of what the Brussels native does best: effective songs — the catchy “Penelope Cruz” that should still be in your head weeks after the first listen — sprinkled with that touch of humor so characteristic of Marka — “On ne peut pas” as a duet with harmonica player Greg Zlap or “Je positive”. The father of Belgium’s most famous family also allows himself a little look in the rearview mirror with “Un vieux rocker”, a touching autobiographical ballad. With this new album, Marka once again demonstrates his qualities as a songwriter and melodist and introduces you to Voodoo Belge, the kind that makes your ears and your cheek muscles tingle.
