Present from the earliest stirrings of Trobar (the poetry of the troubadours), the Sirventés is a rebellious style: it describes without restraint the violence of its century, the stupidity of the powerful and the fleeting nature of human feelings. To the cliché reducing the troubadour to a grief-stricken lover taking refuge in his ivory tower, the Sirventés opposes the image of a poet-musician who lampoons princes, mocks the Church, caught with his contemporaries in turmoil and war. The three musicians (including Manu Théron from the group Lo Cor dela Plana on vocals), have chosen to respect, while developing or drawing inspiration from them, the original melodies, recorded at the end of the 13th century by the last troubadours. They make use of their respective experiences, accumulated through rapprochements - utopian or real - between Eastern and Western, popular and learned, ancient and contemporary music. Accustomed to digression and improvisation, they also offer a courteous, unrestrained and above all unexpected response to those who know, like our troubadours, what music and poetry can do to lessen the absurdity of the world.
