The new album by M. Ward, now available!
As a solo artist and half of She & Him, M. Ward has become one of the most prominent voices in the American indie landscape of the 2000s, winning the favor of fans and critics for his distinctive brand of West Coast Americana, which draws from folk, country, blues, pop, and elements of experimental indie rock.
On "Supernatural Thing," M. Ward has clearly mastered the entire vocabulary of American popular music and made serious decisions about how to use it for his own purposes. What Ward shares with the artists of Harry Smith and Neil Young is a context of musical and human values: authenticity and intimacy. The original songs of "Supernatural Thing" feel freshly pulled from the ground, with a bit of dirt clinging to their skin. Ward's lyrics have that slight rawness that the ear loves, and his voice carries a quiet dignity and great tenderness. "Supernatural Thing" is an open and welcoming album.
