Who was Gurdjieff? Wise philosopher or dark mystic? Half a century after his death, the mystery remains. If his esoteric activity was devoted to breaking down the barriers of thought, his music is its worthy heir. Gurdjieff’s pieces reflect his wanderings from Asia Minor to Central Asia and his life journey: from his Armenian cradle to his Parisian gravestone. They build a bridge between Eastern and Western musical traditions, abolishing borders. In 1980, Keith Jarrett recorded “Sacred Hymns of G.I. Gurdjieff.”
