It is a cinematic album, deeply modern and singular: listening to Faces is like watching a film. The 13 songs that make it up are all stories in themselves: each track will also be illustrated by a video co-directed by Irma. It is the signature of an artist who grew up in the digital age: in the era of the Internet, image and sound have become inseparable and their dialogue is a new language. Faces is therefore a musical vision, a look at the world, illuminated by finely crafted melodies, shaken by powerful, earthy rhythms, and carried by the intense, precise, unadorned voice of Irma. This album, her second, the 25-year-old woman thought out and conceived from start to finish. To write it, she went to New York for 1 1/2 years, alone. Why New York? βBecause in this city, people come looking for something, to find a dream.β Living in a tiny studio in the East Village, she began an astonishing writing process. She bought a small camera. She started walking the streets, filming everything that inspired her: βthe leaves, the trees, the traffic lights, the passersby.β People above all. Strangers, unknowns. She talked to them, listened to their stories, filmed their faces. Every evening, she watched her films, transcribed everything, filled her notebooks. Finally she picked up her guitar: to set the words to music, to make the images dance. βI was already thinking a lot about the stage, an album is made to be played, you have to feel life, reality, the songs must be embodied.β After the writing, Irma directed the recording, both as conductor and craftsman, playing all the instruments, working on the rhythms, and being heavily involved in the programming. βI like to see things through to the end,β she explains. The result: a visceral, demanding, generous album, of incredible maturity.
