It may have taken us some time, but the moment has come for one of the greats of jazz to take his place in our Four Classic Album series! Pianist, arranger, and composer, Horace Silver undoubtedly falls into the category of Jazz Greats. Perhaps even one of the most brilliant in jazz when you look at his CV! Horace Silver played a key role as a sideman for almost all the big names in jazz and spent 28 years as the leader of his own group on the Blue Note label. A list of the great players he accompanied should include Stan Getz (who gave Horace his first big break when he joined Getz in 1950), Lester Young, Coleman Hawkins, Lou Donaldson (who helped develop his understanding of be-bop), Sonny Stitt, Art Farmer, Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Donald Byrd, Clifford Jordan, and Milt Jackson.
