“Punk one day, punk forever,” says a popular saying from the dawn of time. Listening to the first two tracks of this fourth Green Day album, one suddenly wonders about the common sense of our ancestors, so quick to express in a few words the deep feeling of an entire civilization. Have these three young Yankee rebels suddenly turned their studded Perfecto toward a rock that is certainly tense, but more polished? Not at all! Billie Joe, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool quickly make up for it and, throughout this sharply crafted record, spit out their no future anthems, revamped for the 2000s, as if it were ’14 or ’77. Punk one day, punk forever, it still works! All the better!
