With Unlearning Vol. 2, his fifth solo album, Evidence continues a process of introspection begun on the first volume in 2021. Far from resting on his laurels or playing the veteran card, the former Dilated Peoples member chooses to unlearn in order to reinvent himself. The tone is set right from the opening with “Plans Change”, where his laid-back flow barely masks a desire for disruption and artistic refocusing. Still as precise behind the mic, Evidence carves out a more intimate path here, and a more fragile one too. Over spellbinding productions by Sebb Bash (“Seeing Double”), C-Lance (“Top Seeded”), Conductor Williams or himself (“Greatest Motivation”), he explores grief, fatherhood, uncertainty, without ever losing control. The guests, carefully chosen – The Alchemist, Blu, Domo Genesis, Larry June or DJ Babu – fit into a coherent framework, where each beat becomes a field for experimentation. Between stoicism and lucidity, Evidence turns wounds into food for thought. Unlearning Vol. 2 is not a record of rupture, but a manifesto in motion: that of an artist who refuses autopilot and chooses vulnerability as a creative engine.
