Born from a brand-new collaboration between a purist musicologist, a local singer, and a French boundary-breaking filmmaker, the new Electro Bamako celebrates Malian music at its most powerful: a psychedelic trance over computer-assisted rock blended with traditional instruments, and there you have it, almost. Add that the project was made in New York in the Williamsburg neighborhood of "TV on the Radio" and the "Yeah yeah yeah's", and you will have an idea of how current this burning project is, at once a Power Trio and a multicultural performance developed with respect. Paul Sidibé, a musician renowned for being a virtuoso of the Kaméle n' goni (he has accompanied Nawa Doumbia, salif Keita...) and a kind of Malian Marvin Gaye, a "Lover" singer as they say in Jamaica, this native of Kita handles his instruments with the dexterity of a Peul master while telling stories of a Poet, with humor and the smiles that go with it.... Damien Traini, a student of master Djembe players (Karim Coulibaly or Ibrahima Sarr...) knows the history by heart, having "spent time" there, on the Kaméle n' goni or the Djembe, a sound tinkerer, he is also someone who excels in a Logic Audio environment, the Brian Eno of the story.... Marc Minelli, arranger & producer, fine guitarist, grew up to the sound of Talking heads and sophisticated rock in general, his "world" approach was forged through encounters (Mamani Keïta, Ernest Ranglin, Amadou et Mariam....) and through a late but passionate discovery of Jazz combined with an in-depth knowledge of machines, he has spent most of his time in recent years in studios or on stage in a performance-like register, building each project as a futuristic architect.
