Dr. Lonnie Smith is preparing the release of his first Blue Note album in 45 years. The album will mark the return of the legendary Hammond B-3 organ master to Blue Note, the label where he made his mark in the late 60s, first as sideman to saxophonist Lou Donaldson (notably on Alligator Bogaloo), and soon after (leading his own groups) with the famous soul-jazz albums Think! and Turning Point, which have become benchmarks. Among the special guests featured are pianist Robert Glasper and saxophonist Joe Lovano, who made his debut as Lonnie’s accompanist in 1975 (on his album Afrodesia.)
