Although a major player in its golden age, DEFILED is neither a relic of the past nor a guardian of old-school death metal. Like the Japanese salamander, this Tokyo legend has evolved on the fringes of scenes and trends. Their ninth album, 'Altered State', confirms their mastery of the genre, but does not dwell on the past or present of death metal. After hearing three albums in four years, fans of the band could legitimately think that DEFILED had reached its peak, that there was nothing left for them to reveal. 'Altered State' quickly dispels any doubt. The first single, "Portal", reminds us that the band knows how to elevate even the most traditional riffs before launching into a series of tempo changes that transport us into another dimension. Influenced by the underground sounds of the 80s and 90s, the album delves deeper into the psychic perception of our distorted reality. 'Altered State' does not hesitate to explore the darkest and most mysterious corners of our collective consciousness. On 'Altered State', DEFILED unleashes a dizzying death metal onslaught straight from the future. For fans of ATHEIST, MONSTROSITY, CRYPTOPSY.
