Founded in 1969 by Vincent Crane, former organist of Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Atomic Rooster recorded five albums between 1969 and 1973 and had two hits: Tomorrow Night and Devil’s Answer, in 1970 and 1971 respectively. The band’s lineup varied from album to album, but it was generally accepted that the group’s “classic” lineup, made up of Vincent Crane, John Du Cann (guitar, vocals) and Paul Hammond (drums), existed between 1970 and 1971. Atomic Rooster eventually split up in 1975, but in 1980 Vincent Crane and John Du Cann reformed the band to record a new album. The recording sessions included Preston Heyman on drums and the Atomic Rooster album was released in September 1980. The album, in a hard-rock style, was well received. To promote the album, the band went on tour with the return of drummer Paul Hammond. A memorable concert at London’s Marquee Club on 19 November 1980 was recorded and released in 2002. This remastered edition of Atomic Rooster has been expanded into a two-disc set including the album Live at The Marquee 1980, as well as 11 bonus tracks taken from studio recordings, demos and a rare B-side. The box set also includes a booklet with new liner notes.
