The Triumphant Return of As I Lay Dying! Formed in 2000 in San Diego, AS I LAY DYING has released six studio albums and has become one of the best-known Metalcore bands in the world. The band has sold hundreds of thousands of records and toured the world. In 2019, the band returned and put two tracks online on streaming platforms, which were listened to 18 million times. 'As I Lay Dying' is a Californian metal-hardcore band from San Diego. Formed in 2001 with Tim Lambesis on vocals, Jordan Macino on drums and Evan White on guitar, the band released its first album, « Encasing Of Ashes ». In 2003, AILD signed a contract with Metal Blade, then releasing « Frail Words Collapse ». After the release of the album, White left the band and was replaced by two guitarists: Phil Sgrosso, Nick Hipa, as well as a new bassist, Clint Norris. The new line-up recorded « Shadows Are Security », then "A Long March: The First Recordings". The band spent its summer on the Sounds of the Underground metal-hardcore tour, alongside internationally renowned artists including In Flames, GWAR, Trivium as well as Cannibal Corpse. Shortly after, Clint Norris left the band to devote himself to his family and was replaced by Josh Gilbert on bass. Following this recruitment, the band’s sound became more melodic (because of Gilbert’s vocal harmonies), and it was in August 2007 that the band released its fourth album, « An Ocean Between Us ». In 2009, the band released a DVD, « This Is Who We Are », including a documentary, a live concert as well as various additional videos. In 2011, the band commemorated its 10 years of career by releasing a compilation featuring original compositions, remixes as well as covers of legendary bands such as Slayer and even Judas Priest. In 2012, the band returned to the studio with producer and punk icon Bill Stevenson to record their sixth album, « Awakened ». 'As I Lay Dying' also includes performances at the world’s biggest festivals for over 10 years (including Wacken Open Air, With Full Force, Soundwave Festival, Sounds of the Underground, Warped Tour, Bloodstock Open Air, Taste of Chaos), an MTV2 award for « Ultimate Metal God », a San Diego Music Awards nomination for « Artiste Of The Year » (in 2005, 2007 and 2008) as well as a 2008 Grammy Awards nomination. But it would take until 2019 for news to delight fans: after a break of several years, 'As I Lay Dying' is back with a new album and a tour that promises to be electric. "Shaped By Fire' is the band’s first album since singer Tim Lambesis was sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to paying $1,000 to have his wife killed by a San Diego police officer posing as a hitman. About two and a half years later, in December 2016, he was released from a California detention center and transferred to the Adult Parole Operations Division.
