What is a vinyl pre-order?

It is a reservation for a record before its official release date. The store ships it as soon as it arrives, usually around release day. Pre-orders are most useful for limited editions such as colored vinyl or box sets, which can sell out before the record even comes out.

Where can I pre-order vinyl records?

Most record stores, online retailers, label shops and artist webstores take pre-orders for upcoming releases. On Vinyles.com, you can compare the pre-order offers of several partner stores for the same edition, then complete your order with the store that suits you.

When should I pre-order a limited vinyl edition?

As soon as possible after it is announced. Color variants, numbered box sets and store exclusives are pressed in fixed quantities and often sell out before release. For a standard black vinyl edition, you can take your time and compare offers.

Am I charged when I place a vinyl pre-order?

It depends on the store. Some charge when you order, others only when the record ships. Vinyles.com compares offers but does not handle payment, so check the store's terms before you confirm, especially if the release date is far off or likely to move.

Vinyl Pre-orders: Every Upcoming Record, All Genres in One Place

How do vinyl pre-orders work?

Vinyl pre-orders let you reserve a record that has been announced but is not out yet. The store ships it as soon as it arrives, usually around release day. This page gathers every pre-order tracked on Vinyles.com, across all genres: new albums, reissues, box sets and soundtracks. For each record, you compare offers from partner stores, then complete your order with the store you choose, under its own terms.

The catalog runs from John Carpenter and Mick Gordon scores to DJ Shadow, with metal from Dragonforce and As I Lay Dying, pop from the Sugababes and Japanese music from Akiko Yano along the way. To narrow things down, each genre has its own page, including rock preorders, metal pre-orders, alternative pre-orders, pop pre-orders, jazz & blues pre-orders and soundtrack pre-orders.

Why pre-order instead of waiting for release?

Pre-ordering matters most for limited editions. Color variants, numbered box sets and store exclusives are often pressed in fixed quantities and can sell out before release day. A standard black vinyl edition is less urgent: it usually stays available after release and may be repressed. If a specific variant is what you want, ordering on announcement day is often the only way to get it at list price.

The other advantage is time to compare. The same record can be priced differently across stores, and prices can change before release. Following the product page helps you catch the best offer at the right moment, instead of rushing to the first store that lists it. Nothing is charged by Vinyles.com itself.
