About
The Smashing Pumpkins, Chicago's alternative rock legends, shaping '90s grunge and beyond.
The Smashing Pumpkins started as a trio featuring Billy Corgan, James Iha, and D'Arcy Wretzky before drummer Jimmy Chamberlin joined, completing the core lineup. Their 1991 debut album Gish was produced with Butch Vig, yet they found greater success with the 1993 release Siamese Dream. Known for dense guitar overdubs and Corgan recording multiple instrumental parts, they crafted a signature sound blending powerful riffs and melodic layers. Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness, a double album from 1995, includes several hit singles and represents their commercial peak. Post-1998's experimental Adore, lineup changes impacted their style. The band regrouped for albums like Machina and the more recent Atum, a rock opera spanning three acts.
