A properly exhilarating live album, Jack DeJohnette celebrates the reunion of old friends. In 1962, DeJohnette, Roscoe Mitchell, and Henry Threadgill were classmates at Wilson Junior College in Southside Chicago, pooling their energy and enthusiasm in endless jam sessions. Shortly after, Jack joined Muhal Richard Abram's Experimental Band, soon followed by Roscoe and Henry. When Abrams co-founded the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) in 1965, DeJohnette, Mitchell, and Threadgill were already deeply engaged in the adventure, accumulating concerts and participating in each other's projects under the aegis of the AACM. It was in August 2013 that Jack had the idea to bring all these great musicians together for a special concert at Millennium Park in Chicago, calling on bassist and cellist Larry Gray to complete the lineup. The recording of the concert, featuring compositions by Roscoe, Henry, Muhal, and Jack, as well as collective improvisations, was mixed by Manfred Eicher and Jack DeJohnette at Avatar Studios in New York. Made In Chicago is released as the AACM celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.
