There is a lot of history concentrated within Jack DeJohnette's new trio. Fifty years ago, he played with the fathers of the other two members of his group, Ravi Coltrane and Matthew Garrison, as a guest of John Coltrane's band. Thus, the album In Movement opens with Coltrane's poignant and always relevant elegy Alabama. Also featured are the standard 'Blue In Green' by Miles Davis and Bill Evans and Serpentine Fire by Earth, Wind and Fire. 'The Two Jimmys' is a tribute to Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Garrison, both great innovators, and 'Rashied' honors the memory of Rashied Ali, another great drummer from Coltrane's circle.
