Jamaica, the 1960s. Ska, rock steady, and reggae artists cover soul tracks from the United States, giving them their own versions that will in turn become future classics. The hits of the moment are also given a Jamaican twist, regardless of their original provenance—pop, country, jazz... The island's rhythms definitively transform the original tracks. In 2024, with their third album titled Drag'n'fly, adorned with a magnificent dragonfly (a "dragonfly" indeed, in King Tubby's tongue), The Dynamics honor the Jamaican tradition and dynamite 10 versions of hits from yesterday and today. The Dragonfly spreads its reggae, soul, and funk wings to land in every pair of headphones at the heart of good stereos and on spicy dancefloors. After two albums whose success led them to traverse the globe from Glastonbury to Tokyo, endorsed by the great elders (an opening act for Lee Perry here, regular DJ support from Don Letts there), The Dynamics revive their "soul reggae vocal sound system," honed before audiences of Jamaican sound specialists or before those who happened to cross paths with them alongside the Chemical Brothers... or Lady Gaga.
