Better Get Ready

Description

Pat Kelly, among all Jamaican singers, was the most influenced by the voice of American soul singer Sam Cooke. Born in 1949 in Kingston, Jamaica, he began his singing career in 1967 by replacing Slim Smith as the lead singer of The Techniques, his voice blending perfectly with the impeccable harmonies of Winston Riley and Bruce Ruffin. Their first hit for the powerful Duke Reid stable was a version of the Curtis Mayfield song "You'll Want Me Back" renamed "You Don't Care," which topped the charts in Jamaica for six weeks. For this compilation, Kingston Sounds focused on the music that Kelly recorded with legendary Jamaican producer Bunny 'Striker' Lee.
