'Back to Moon Beach' is an EP, according to the artist's own definition. Most other artists would describe it as a short album, given its nearly hour-long runtime. However, Kurt Vile prefers to view it as a compilation of material he has accumulated over the past four years, exploring it in a deeper way and through a new means of expression other than an album. The EP was refined with his longtime partner, producer and engineer Adam Langelotti.
