Jazz Contrasts

Description

Jazz Contrasts, one of the most remarkable titles in Kenny Dorham's already incredible catalog, receives the New Land treatment, mastered directly from the original tapes by Kevin Gray and presented in luxurious packaging, making it the definitive edition. Kenny Dorham is one of the greatest jazz trumpeters of all time. Early in his career, he played in the big bands of Lionel Hampton, Billy Eckstine, Dizzy Gillespie, and Mercer Ellington, as well as Charlie Parker's quintet. He also played as a sideman in some of the best groups of the era, and Dorham also led his own bands. Jazz Contrasts was recorded at Reeves Sound Studio in New York between May 21 and 27, 1957. It features Kenny in sparkling form alongside the equally magnificent Sonny Rollins on tenor saxophone, Hank Jones on piano, Oscar Pettiford on bass, Max Roach on drums, and the masterful jazz harpist Betty Glamann.
